Lions supports Moths

For the past 37 years the Krugersdorp Lions Club has taken it upon themselves to host an annual fundraising walk to financially support the warriors as much as possible.

For more than 35 years, the Krugersdorp Lions Club has hosted an annual fundraising Warrior Walk in support of the Warrior Shellhole Hay Flats’ residents, with the aim of providing as much financial support for them as possible.

Most of these residents are soldiers who fought on the border of South Africa during one war or the other. They live in cottages that were built in the 1950s as cost-effective accommodation for these tremendous warriors, known as Moths.

Sunday, 3 September was no exception when roughly 300 people gathered to walk the walk for the warriors of the country.

“Some walked and some enjoyed a braai – either way everyone contributed to this great cause and had a great time while doing so,” Peggy du Toit, one of the coordinators said.

This walk is held on the first Sunday of Spring every year, at the Moth Warrior Shellhole, with all the supporters walking about eight kilometres in aid of the residents.

On Sunday, 17 September, this Moth club will have another fundraising Family Fun Spring Day Jol event from 10.30am.
