Phase 1 of multi-million upgrade at Coronation Park almost complete
More than 90 per cent of the paving and more than half of the landscaping have been completed.
Since the eviction of the Coronation squatters in December 2014, the community has been patiently waiting for construction on the re-development of the park to start, this being the reason why the squatters were evicted in the first place.
In February 2015, the re-developers of Coronation Park started clearing spaces, removing rubble, and upgrading the perimeter fences.

At the beginning of this year, the first phase of the re-development started. With the speed of light the developers started paving the area and began construction on an entrance and guardhouse.
Today, more than 90 per cent of the paving is finished and more than half of the landscaping has also been completed. With more than 5 000 square metres of multi-coloured brick paving – which includes walkways and roads – the area is set to be beautiful, and most importantly, safe for park-goers.

The upgrade was split into multiple phases: Phase 1 consisted of fencing and the rehabilitation of land, upgrading of existing roads and construction of entrance buildings. Phase 2 will consist of upgrading gardens, placing of benches, and the creation of other recreational facilities.

Phase 1 of the project is almost complete, despite some setbacks which caused construction to be delayed by more than a month.
