Local pilot escapes death after crashing into airplane hangar

The incident has been reported to the Civil Aviation Authority.

A man in his 40s sustained life-threatening injuries when he tried to land his microlight at an airfield in Orient Hills in Magaliesburg and accidentally crashed into an airplane hangar at 7.37am on Saturday, 23 September.

“Due to the severe nature of his injuries and the location of the incident, the Netcare 911 specialised helicopter ambulance was called to the scene,” said Nick Dollman, spokesperson for Netcare 911.

“The patient was stabilised on scene and specialised equipment was used to immobilise and spinally restrict him.”

CPR was administered and he was also placed on a ventilator. He was airlifted to a specialised Trauma Unit for the urgent medical care that he required.

The incident has been reported to the Civil Aviation Authority.

Magaliesburg Police and the West Rand Fire Department were also on scene to investigate the incident.
