Big, bold, bright Braai Day in Boltonia

The Game Changers focus on getting the youth of Krugersdorp more active and involved in healthy activities.

On Saturday, 23 September a relatively new non-profit organisation (NPO) hit Boltonia with a big, bright, Braai Day bang when they celebrated Heritage Month with the community.

This NPO, known as Game Changers, focuses on getting the youth of the Krugersdorp West and its surrounds more active and involved in healthy activities.

“This was our first big event since we established the organisation. We aim to offer almost everything from performing arts to contact sports, and everything in between in an effort to keep the local children off the streets. And we just thought ‘why not host an event where the children could show off their talents?’” said chairperson, Thato Musa.

The planned event matched their aims and involved various types of performing arts such as dancing, poetry recitation and singing. Approximately 50 community members gathered in the name of their heritage and sat around the same fire while braaing their meat and enjoying everything the children had to offer.

Game Changers currently has both a netball and a soccer team, with players between the ages of 16 and 18. Dancing is the newest addition to the organisation’s range of activities.

“We plan to expand our borders by adding sports such as tennis, swimming, rugby and many more, as well as numerous activities in the arts, like acting, singing and poetry, and many more,” Thato explained.

They also have a team of six dedicated officials who play a very important role in each aspect of the organisation.

“We would like to thank our Ward councillor, Whitey Moleba, for assisting us with finding some sponsors for the event, and an even bigger thank you goes to all of our sponsors themselves,” he said.

The organisation would like to encourage adults and/ or professionals to join them to assist with coaching sports and other activities in the future, and all the children from Mogale City are invited to become a part of Game Changers too.
