Weather services predict an end of year drought

With no sign of heavy rainfall in the near future, water should be used sparingly.

Lack of rain means lack of food, increased prices and little water for everyday use. That’s why the residents of the West Rand have now been advised to save water with the rest of Gauteng.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) predicts there will be no meaningful rain in the province for the remainder of this year, and forecasts that there will only be significant showers from January 2018.

The Water and Sanitation Department said as weeks go by, they have witnessed a minor drop in the water level of the Vaal Dam, which now stands at 85,7 per cent full. The Vaal River structure which includes 14 dams that supply Gauteng, is still using water from the substantial rains that occurred in April of this year, according to the Department’s Media Liaison Director, Sputnik Ratau..

It is therefore of vital importance for West Rand residents to use water sparingly.
