Small school makes big impression
Munsieville Primary School is proud to announce that two of their athletes have qualified to participate in the SA Cross-country Championship’s School League.
For two years and counting, a relatively new primary school in Munsieville has been making a name for being a school with small beginnings and big endings that one can’t even imagine.
Munsieville Primary School is proud to announce that two of their athletes – Naledi Mothogwane, a Grade 5 learner and Yomelela Magade, a Grade 6 learner – have qualified to participate in the SA Cross-country Championship’s School League at provincial level, after successfully completing the first five stages of the championships. The first stage was held at Hoërskool Bekker during the first week of August when 60 learners from Munsieville Primary participated. The remaining stages were held at Laerskool Hekpoort, Curro Independent School, Greenhills Stadium and Prestige College. During the semi-finals (the fifth stage), six Munsieville Primary athletes were still in the competition.
According to Veronica Sebogodi, a member of the school’s sports committee, this is an exceptional achievement as their learners only have a few square kilometres of rough, grassless terrain to practice on.
This is also not the first year that some of the learners made it through to the district and provincial finals.
On Saturday, 30 September, the national competition will see Naledi and Yomolela giving it their all when they represent Gauteng in Kimberley in the Northern Cape.
“They really made us proud, especially considering where they come from and the fact that they don’t really have the needed facilities. They just have what it takes and they are passionate about what they are doing,” Veronica said.
The school, and their coach, Steward Gaonakala, are extremely proud of these learners and trust that they will do well in Kimberley. They would also like to thank their supporters and sponsors for their assistance.
