Caltex robber shot dead during heist

Suspected robber killed and security guard shot in apparent robbery at local petrol station.

According to the News’ sister publication, the Randfontein Herald, two men, one allegedly a suspect and the other apparently a security guard, were shot during an alleged robbery at a petrol station at the Brandvlei Crossing yesterday, 2 October.

The alleged suspect was killed, while the other man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, paramedics arrived on the scene at 1.10pm to find local authorities already in attendance.

“Upon closer inspection, paramedics found the body of a man, believed to have been one of the suspects, lying in front of a security vehicle.

Paramedics assessed him and found that he had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead,” he said.

A second man, believed to be a security officer was assessed and found to have sustained a gunshot wound to one of his legs. He was treated for his injuries and transported to Lenmed Randfontein for further treatment.

Details surrounding this incident are not yet known, but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
