Locals blown away by Go West Festival acts

"We love you very much. While we’re touring the north African Countries, we brag about Mogale City all of the time.”

Once again, hordes of fun-lovers invaded the Coronation Park venue for the annual Go West Festival.

Revellers partied for nearly 12 hours, from 2pm on Saturday, 23 September to 2am the next day. They danced like crazy to local acts who had the opportunity to open the set for top acts ranging from Sipho HotStix Mabuse and Dr Malinga, to the Jaziel Brothers and L’vovo Derango.

Veteran Sipho HotStix Mabuse said that although he was happy to be in Mogale City for the Go West Festival, he also has sad memories of when he played the saxophone eleven years ago at the Mogale Centenary Hall during the funeral of the late soccer legend Patrick Ace Ntsoelengoe, the former Kaizer Chiefs legend.

“It was the biggest loss for South African sport as a whole and he was close to me,” said Sipho.

Encore, a popular musical group from Kagiso, also played at the Festival.

He said that he was happy to perform in front of so many West Randers who seemed to enjoy his performance a lot.

Mogale City was also honoured to accommodate Mafikizolo, a local Afro Pop duo made up of Nhlanhla Nciza and Theo Kgosinkwe, who are seen as the ambassadors of Mogale City. They have been part of the Go West Festival since its inception six years ago.

Amanda Black, a local artist who was in the Top 10 of Idols South Africa and featured on the front page of Elle magazine also performed at the concert.

“We love you very much. While we’re touring in North Africa, we brag about Mogale City all of the time,” said Theo.

The up-and-coming Maseng Maanwane, a house music vocalist, also didn’t disappoint as she opened for Kabelo Thomane, member of a band called Encore, which is a group made up of artists from Kagiso.

Other top-notch performers included Robbie Malinga, who is known for his high kicks, and Amanda Black.
