Reward for drink wine – saving a dog’s life

Imagine sipping on a glass of perfect wine and knowing that the money you paid will help to take care of an orphan dog.

Sipping a glass of wine with your beloved furkid at your feet is one of the most relaxing activities you could possibly take part in.What if we told you that the wine you’re sipping can actually save an orphaned dog? Paws R Us, a Tarlton-based animal shelter is doing just that. They’ve launched a range of specially crafted wines and sell them to collect funds to take care of abandoned dogs.

Each crafted wine has a picture of a fur orphan on its label, and the specific wine fits each dog’s personality.

“They have been specifically chosen because they each represent a theme, issue or cause that is close to our hearts,” said Linda Grimmer, founder of Paws R Us.

The Monty Merlot, for example, features is a very special Bull Terrier called Monty who is fighting skin cancer in the most beautifully brave way.

Merlot is made from a thin-skinned grape that is very sensitive to its environment.

The range of 6 wines and 2 bubblies includes:

Each of the wines and bubblies has it own own unique doggy personality that fits the type.

Ross (the face of the Rosé) is a Shepherd-mix male who bears the name of Ross Learmonth from Prime Circle – the first celebrity to have jumped in to support Paws R Us (SA).

Like the wine, Ross is sweet, easy to love and goes well with everything.

Pablo (the face of the Pinotage) represents the thousands of Jack Russels who are misunderstood, abandoned and dumped at shelters around the country. This is arguably the most surrendered breed in SPCAs .

Pinotage has a cheeky, strong flavour. Just like the wine, Pablo is alert and cheeky, but still one of the most preferred breeds in South Africa.

Camo (the Chardonnay) represents the misunderstood Pitbull breed. Victims of stereotyping, prejudice, ignorance, and now even exploited by humans for greed via the rampant rise of dog-fighting, he has a light personality just like the wine, and a beautiful colour and spirit.

Caesar and Clio (Cabernet) also fall into this category. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most popular wine in SA. But, it’s misunderstood, and so are pitbulls.

Sheena (Shiraz) represents the cross-breed Afrikanis dog, common to our country. These dogs have endless resilience and so much personality and grit, if people would only take the time to truly see their magnificence. In Sheena’s case, she was rescued from being stoned by a group of children. The hardiness of the wine reflects the personality of Sheena.

Brad and Angelina (Brut) are two long-legged medium-sized Fox Terrier mixes. They are profiled because of their amazing resilience. Not only has Brad triumphed over cancer, but he and Angelina are now our long-timers in the kennels – they’ve been there for almost three years. Please support their label. They symbolise the sad reality of rescued animals who wait longer for blessings to come. Just like the relationship between the celebrity couple Brangelina, the wine signifies the dryness of long-term companionship and the sparkle that still remains.

Sarge (Spumante) represents the LBD – the little brown dog or the little black dog … thousands upon thousands of little cross-breed spirits waiting in hope for a second chance at life, and all too often being overlooked. We know from experience that they are legends – brimming with spunk and personality! They’ve had a dry and hard life, but the sparkle still remains.

No matter what taste you have, there’s a wine for you.
