#Tornado Path: Here’s how you can help

Caxton Joburg North and West are collecting necessities to help those in need.

The tornado that struck Krugersdorp, Ruimsig and Muldersdrift yesterday, 9 October at about 3pm has left widespread devastation all across the West Rand, and since the event, numerous people have asked how they can help those worst affected.

Caxton Joburg West and North is collecting necessities to help those in need.

Here’s what the people need:

• Blankets and bedding

• Tinned food: Nothing that needs to be prepared because some areas still don’t have electricity.

• Baby food, formula and feeding bottles

• Nappies

• Warm clothes and jackets

• Equipment and materials to repair shacks

• Clean water

• Medical kits, such as bandages and plasters

• Toiletries, including toilet paper and towels

• School stationery and books for children

• School clothes

• Shoes

Please note only above listed items will be accepted. Donations will be accepted at Caxton Joburg West, which is situated on the corner of Generaal Pienaar and Ham Streets, Witpoortjie, and Caxton Joburg North Office, which is located at the corner of JG Strydom Road and Cornelius Street (opposite Palm Court Shopping Centre) in Weltevreden Park.

Hope for the Future, a local charity, said they would take care of children if parents need to go home. Yolandi Pestana and Madre Botha, who have been members of the community for many years said if anyone is in desperate need of someone to babysit their children, they would be more than happy to do so. Elsa Nel Erasmus, owner of the Bankenveld House Bed and Breakfast in Chancliff said those who need a place to stay are welcome to stay there at no cost. Contact Elsa on 082 378 8024 for more information.

The NG Church Paardekraal Monument will be taking soup and bread to the residents of Munsieville informal settlement at about 3pm today, 10 October. They are asking for donations of bread, soup and polystyrene cups, and volunteers to help them hand out the food. For more information, contact Yolanda on 082 770 6346.
