Walkathon: for a better you

An event to encourage women affected by GBV to let go of their traumatic past.

The Restoration Walk is a turning point for women who have been directly and indirectly affected by gender-based violence (GBV) – but there is more to it. Girl I need you (Ginu) is a non-profit organisation that concentrates on women of all ages, races and backgrounds. It helps them restore their identity, re-boost their confidence, rebuild their self-esteem, regain their dignity and realise their purpose.

Because October is Elderly People Month and Cancer Awareness month, Ginu will merge all three events into one in an effort to have a really powerful impact on the community of the West Rand. Organised in partnership with the local stakeholders, the walkathon, entitled ‘Restoration Walk 2017’, is in support of all women.

The vision bearer of the initiative, Ntibi Papa, said as much as the event is being organised for women who were attacked this year, the opportunity for support is also open to all men who would like to participate. On the day, participants will be walking together to release the pain, hurt and shame we feel as a nation.

“We would like to perform a symbolic act as we walk our pain away, by dropping different coloured stones symbolising our pain at specified stations,” said Ntibi.

Date: Saturday, 21 October 2017

Venue: Kagiso Extension 12, Mogale City

8am to 11am – walk

Noon to 3pm – celebration

3pm to 4pm – refreshments
