A worthy initiative for the community
The CPSF are usually the immediate help to arrive and assist wholeheartedly.
The CPSF Sector 3 has launched an initiative for the public of West Rand to have a fun day on 4 November, while giving to a good cause.
The members of the CPSF (Community Police Sub-Forum, formerly known as the CPF) are the eyes and ears of the police and our community. Everything they do, which includes patrolling, rescuing lost or injured pets, assisting the community before police or ambulance services arrive – is on a voluntary basis. These patrollers are all ordinary working fathers, mothers and family-driven members of our community, just like you and they all make use of their own vehicles and provide their valuable time and money in order to patrol the area and to assist in crime prevention.
Sector 3, operating mostly in Quellerie Park, Krugersdorp North, Dan Pienaarville, Rant en Dal and Chancliff initiated this great cause to help and reach more lives. They have 18 Level 3 First Aiders, who have been very active at scenes (household and accidents), as well as attending to various other medical situations, such as injured children, teachers and other public members at Protearif Primary school and others in our sector.
After the storm on Monday, 9 October, all the first aid bags have to be replenished, and there are other community-based projects for which funding is required. Corné de Villiers, event co-ordinator and volunteer added that there are also several needy people in the area that we try to help with food, warm clothes and blankets.
“Activities planned for the day include ‘boeresport’, such as egg-and-spoon races; three-legged race; sack race; wheelbarrow pushes; egg-throwing; tug of war; slingshot shooting; target shooting; go-kart racing; super tube and swimming for kids; paintball, and a potjiekos competition, to name a few.
The potjiekos competition will allow all West Rand cooks to put their cooking skills to the test. Food, beverages, arts and crafts will also be sold on the day,” said Corné.
Rina de Wit, Sector 3 treasurer, said the main artists for the day will be Candy Benson, alongside guest artists Franna Pretorius and Alida Luus, who will entertain the community members at the event. “A huge thank you to these artists for donating their time and talent, free of charge, for this worthy cause. For more information regarding our potjiekos competition, Corné can be emailed at events@kdpsector3.co.za with ‘Potjiekos competition’ in your subject line.
Great prizes will be up for grabs for the top three in the Baby competition, which is open to all children between birth and two years of age,” said Rina.
There will also be a Mr and Miss CPSF Junior competition, for pre-teens between three and 12 years old, and a Mr and Miss CPSF Teen for 13 to 16 year olds.
Entry forms can be emailed to Corné at events@kdpsector3.co.za and she can arrange collection of entry fees, either by herself, or another CPSF patroller. The closing date for entries is 30 October 2017.
