Water and Sanitation Competition for learners
Teenagers in Grades 8 to 11 are encouraged to enter an awareness competition with a difference.
Youngsters in high schools could walk away with awesome prizes such as laptops, bursaries, educational tours and cash prizes in the Water and Sanitation Project competition.
NNNLO Moss Creations, in collaboration with the Department of Water and Sanitation and Mogale City Municipality, aims to create awareness of water and sanitation issues among schoolgoers.
Learners should identify problems related to water and sanitation in their schools and communities – problems such as water wastage, pollution of water sources (wells and rivers), water-borne diseases, health and hygiene. In doing so, learners are expected to come up with some great ideas to overcome these problems, which they will express in the form of written speeches and debates with other learners. They can also focus on awareness and invention projects that will be adjudicated.
Learners can create stories, booklets, articles, etc. They are required to do research into solutions for the water and sanitation problems in their schools or communities, and in the process improve their English creative writing skills as well as their knowledge of mathematics and science, to prepare them for careers in Water and Sanitation.
The Water Conservation and Demand Management Programme is working to develop water and sanitation practices at schools and communities, by involving learners from high schools in the Water and Sanitation competition and other educational programmes.
