On Thursday, 19 October, approximately 130 West Rand members of the Red Shirts Club played their best game yet when they competed in their fourth and final charity-driven golf day at the challenging Krugersdorp Golf Course.

On this day the Krugersdorp Lions Club were only one of the overjoyed organisations to have received a large amount of funds from this local organisation who ‘hits the club’ for astonishing causes.

The Red Shirts Club is a non-profit organisation that was the brainchild of Mauritz (Mo) Lombard, director of Lombard Tyres. He had the idea of starting a club that is supported by like-minded individuals and companies to raise funds for charity.

This club boasts a fully subscribed field of members, who have a passion for golf and a passion for helping others. Each year the Krugersdorp Golf Course is home to a total of four Golf Days.

At the end of the four rounds, all accumulated funds are distributed among several selected charities. This year the some of the recipients included the Krugersdorp Lions Club, the West Rand Rotary Club, Laerskool Protearif, Sable Blind Bowlers Association and Deo Gloria House among others. The total amount raised was about R300 500.

On this day they also announced the winners of their annual raffle, in which participants stood a chance of winning a portion of the funds raised.

“We started out with nothing. Just a group of people and supporters who wanted to give back tot the community. Look at where we are today – so many people opening their hearts for a good cause,” Dean van Zyl said.

The recipients would also like to thank the Red Shirts Club for their ongoing support, assistance and good nature.
