Nearly 25 dogs rescued from local brothel

She and her team found two different litters of tiny pups – both with skinny and petrified moms that were dazed and confused.

Linda Scrace, a member of Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) had one of the worst experiences ever on Monday morning, 12 November.

She found herself visiting a brothel in Krugersdorp where nearly 25 dogs were living under terrible circumstances.

The owner of the dogs had apparently asked his neighbours to call someone to come and remove the dogs.

“We never know what we are going to find when we go out on these calls, so we just had to play it by ear,” said Scrace. “I won’t go into too much detail, but the place was a mess, and it was filthy, with faeces all over.”

She and her team found two litters of tiny pups – both with skinny, petrified mothers that were dazed and confused. There was also a third group of older pups, whose mother apparently lives down the road.

“We left the filthy brothel yard with the two scared and skinny moms and 20 pups of various ages. I don’t know where to put all these animals as we are full. I don’t know where to begin.”

Scrace was torn between putting them all to sleep or committing to investing in these neglected dogs “that did not choose to be born”.

She believes this is a R25 000 plus ‘project’. This will include de-worming, vaccination, sterilisation and applying external parasite control.

“I feel like a hamster on a wheel; going nowhere without an end in sight.”

Lifting up a mattress in the yard it becomes clear that there’s feces everywhere.

One of the pups has already died due to its worm infestation, and some of the other pups are in a chronic condition, also due to worm infestations.
