Learners from Grades 4 to 7 turned heads while making their way on stage to collect their accolades for their 2017 achievements in academics, sports, arts and culture.
The awards began at 11.30am on Friday, 10 November 2017, with parents, School Governing Bodies and officials from the District gracing the ceremony. Awards co-ordinator, and also Grades 5 and 7 Natural Science and Technology teacher, Mrs Jostinah Radodi, said the school was rewarding its learners for the excellence and hard work they showed throughout the year.

Since the school opened in 2011, it has achieved many accolades, like reaching the provincial level competitions in music and dance competitions such as the Eisteddfod. The awards ceremony was attended by Grade 4 to 7 learners and their parents. One of the speakers who motivated the learners on the significance of education, respect and good behaviour, was Brenda Moela, who said, “Your education is a barcode to success, nurture it”.

A group of Tsonga cultural dancers also entertained the audience, and had parents and teachers joining in the fun.
The Grade 4 academic awards winners are: Zanele Mhlanga, Dieketseng Tlali, Minentle Mataka, Asithandile Maduna, Letlotlo Selemela and the top achiever was Zanele Thulo. For Grade 5, the learners with the highest subject averages were: Sinovuyo Tsholoba, Ayanda Dlamini, Nina Mhangwane, Sinethemba Masotsha, and Kamogelo Ramaifo, while the top achiever was Inam Xiphu.
In Grade 6, the learners who attained the best subject marks, with a minimum of 82 per cent, included Nelly Ngubane, Avuyile Mdekazi, and Akani Khoza, with Revival Tshabangu who received over 90 per cent in four subjects coming out on top.

The Grade 7 awards went to six of the girls, each of whom attained at least one distinction. The winners include: Amahle Daster, Palesa Lebitsa, Michelle Ngobeni, Nontando Mangqwengqwe, and Sandisiwe Maphasa, and top achiever Ayanda Sephiri, who bagged five academic awards.
The winner of the District Spelling Bee competition (a special award) was Grade 6 learner, Avuyile Mdekazi. Zanele Thulo (Grade 4) and Sinoxolo Ngqwala (Grade 7) won the Best Chess Players awards. Arts and culture award winners in Dance were Nontando Mangqwengqwe (Grade 7) and Ofentse Mhlupheki (Grade 6). In Music, the winners were Simamkele Silo and Lungiswa Madotyeni (both in Grade 7).

In the Sports Awards, the best soccer player awards went to Mduduzi Nqoko (Grade 7; U/14) and Tshepang Koko (Grade 6; U/12). The best netball players were Mbali Magwaza (Grade 6; U/13) and Candy Mboyana (Grade 7; U/12). In athletics, Themba Mdekazi (Grade 5), and Kumka Lathitha (Grade 7) were the winners. The best cricket players, who received trophies and certificates, were Njabulo Siboza (Grade 5) and Tshepiso Masiteng (Grade 7) .

Best Reader accolades were awarded to the 16 learners (four from each grade) who read better than any others in one of the four language categories – Home Language (IsiXhosa, Xitsonga or Setswana), and First Additional Language (English).
Twenty-four boys and girls also received certificates for neatness and hygiene.
