Oppihoekie Craft Market a huge success

This year was no exception when it offered visitors a lovely tea garden with only the best their bakers had to offer.

For the past five years, the ever-so-popular Oppihoekie Craft Market has offered a shopping delight like no other on the corner of the attractive Viljoen and Third Streets, on the grounds of NG Kerk Krugersdorp-Noord.

This year was no exception when it offered visitors a lovely tea garden with only the best their bakers had to offer, from the most deliciously moist chocolate cake to tasty savoury treats, and everything in between.

Not only did it give those residents who specialise in handcrafts and arts an opportunity to market and sell their products, but it also enabled the community to come together and enjoy time as a family.

This unique market opened for one week only, from Saturday 28 October until Saturday, 4 November. Every day boasted a special – from free coffee days to lucky packets for the little ones, from the raffle to the treats and eats – which encouraged visitors to go back as often as possible.

The arts of needlework, crochet and knitting have even been brought back into fashion by those who have humbly donated countless hand-made beanies, blankets and shawls to the homeless.

From stunning jewellery and unusual earrings to interesting books, this market had it all. Beautiful paintings and timeless masterpieces made from recycled glass filled the corners of the aisles. Other items included small cupboards, tables, bookshelves, decorations and toys among many other things.

Dominee Johan Stander of the church and his team worked tirelessly to make this market a not-to-be-missed event for visitors.

He went on to say that this is their way of giving back to the community – giving visitors something original to look forward to and giving all artists a platform to showcase their beautiful work.

“It was a huge success and we are eternally grateful for all the support from the community. It was a good year and a good market.

We would like to thank everyone who helped and supported us in any way. We are looking forward to the next one,” he concluded.
