Scholars open false cases at police stations
They receive tablets from their schools and report them stolen just before they need to return them at the end of the year.
The West Rand Cluster Police have noticed that scholars in the area are opening false cases, reporting that the tablets they received from their schools have been stolen, in order to keep them after the school year has ended.
The schools issue the tablets to the scholars to help them study for the final exams. But it seems that scholars are reporting them stolen before they need to hand them back.
Interviews with the scholars quickly reveal that they have either lost or misplaced the tablets.
Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the West Rand issued a statement saying that the reporting of these false cases concerns the police gravely.
“It’s evident that scholars open cases which are factually incorrect, saying for example that the tablet was stolen or maliciously damaged,” said Ernst.
“It is a criminal offence to open a case with false information and if found guilty of perjury, the accused will have a criminal record.”
The police are therefore advising the scholars, their parents, and teachers to consider the consequences of opening unsubstantiated criminal cases.
