Crime prevention has been taken up a notch in this area.

Crime prevention is the main objective of the police force, while rural safety is a pillar on which they rely to safeguard the communities in rural areas. The recent spate of house robberies in the Muldersdrift area is one of the West Rand Cluster’s biggest concerns.

The Cluster Management, in partnership with community members and security companies in the area, is addressing this issue alongside members from different units in Gauteng who have been deployed to the area. The Gauteng Mounted Unit, West Rand Rural Safety members and the Muldersdrift Police are all doing their part to ensure crime prevention and rural safety in the area are the order of the day.

Since the start of this initiative, the members on horseback and quad-bikes have been patrolling the area intensively.

They work around the clock to conduct stop-and-search operations, vehicle control points on rural roads and other activities to make their presence felt.

Since the units’ deployment, numerous suspects have been arrested for possession of drugs and dagga. The units are also interacting with locals on a daily basis to ensure that information regarding crime is communicated.

One such example was a dagga patch, which was identified in an informal settlement during one of their patrols. The members removed all the plants and handed them in as exhibits.

This initiative will continue in order to ensure a safer Muldersdrift area. The West Rand Cluster commander, Major General Anna Mateisi, expressed her appreciation towards the police members and the community for their efforts to achieve this goal.
