Lesotho man shot and killed

The deceased sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his right ear.

A 26-year-old Lesotho national was shot and killed on Wednesday, 15 November at about 8pm near Swaneville while on his way to the Cook plant mine in Randfontein.

Police received a complaint of shooting at about 9.15pm from Swaneville block 9. They proceeded to the scene of crime where they found a witness who was believed to be the deceased’s friend who led them to an open field where he pointed out the body. He was lying on his back on the ground and was covered with blood. The deceased sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his right ear.

The witness alleged that they were heading to the mine to report for duty when they were ambushed.

“Suspects suddenly emerged from the bush and started firing shots at them,” said Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson of the Kagiso Police. “The witness took cover but later realised that his friend was wounded. “

He was certified dead on the scene. One other colleague was sustained gunshot wounds to both legs and was rushed to hospital.

Kagiso Police have opened a case of murder and attempted murder respectively and have launched a man hunt for the armed suspects.
