“According to the complainants, two armed suspects approached them as they were about to exit their vehicle. They were held at gunpoint and instructed to handover the vehicle keys,” said Maxine Oberholzer, spokesperson of Key West.
“The suspects had allegedly followed the complainants from another location. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The matter was handed over to local police for further investigation.”
The centre’s management is investigating the implementation of controlled parking in the free parking areas, as well as installing systems that will alert security if an attempt is made to jam the vehicle remote which then prevents the vehicle from locking.
“Management would like to remind shoppers to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times and urge them to report any suspicious behaviour to security (situated around the centre) and/ or Centre Management immediately. The safety of all patrons and shoppers is, and always remains, the Centre’s top priority and we will continue to remain alert.”
