Free reusable pads for less fortunate girls

Here's how you can help girls stay in school.

Palesa Pads handed 30 Flo Kits to Grade 5 and 6 girls from Lesego Primary School on Monday, 13 November at the Avianto Hotel and eased their minds for the coming school year.

These girls are from less privileged communities and often do not have the money to buy sanitary products for themselves.

Each kit contains nine reusable pads plus a bucket and cleaning products. Included in each kit were three pairs of panties because many of the girls do not have suitable panties.

“We had a lovely day of dancing and games where each girl was given an opportunity to win her Flo Kit through demonstrations of how to use Palesa Pads as well as identifying the various parts of the female reproductive system, which we found were not all that familiar to most of the girls,” said Shérie de Wet, member of Palesa Pads.

They did not just learn how to use them, but also had a great time with the staff. They painted their faces with Palesa Flowers and ate some snacks.

Currently, many girls around South Africa are missing three to five days of school each month because they cannot afford sanitary pads. In the future, Palesa Pads hopes to work with other corporates and non-profit organisations to raise funds for reusable sanitary pads to keep girls in school.
