Love and tails are in the air
Even though the four furry friends were overwhelmed with fear at first, their frowns turned upside down upon feeling the sensation of soft, wet, summer grass under their paws.
Roses are red, violets are blue. So are hundreds of abandoned dogs, who needs some love and attention too. Luckily this Valentine’s Day a few of them were not alone as they received some proper love and care – not just a bone.
Even though the four furry friends were overwhelmed with fear at first, their frowns turned upside down upon feeling the sensation of soft, wet, summer grass under their paws.

On Saturday, 10 February these wagging tails from Happy Yappers Animal Sanctuary in Magaliesburg were treated to a lovely day of being petted, walked and loved in celebration of Valentine’s Day.
According to Crooked Tree Dog Park and Campsite owner, Janine Lotter, the event was held in effort to create awareness and raise funds for the animal sanctuary.

“The funds would firstly go towards proper roofing and grass for the approximately 100 dogs that are homed at the sanctuary at the moment,” she explained.
She went on to say that animal lovers were invited to visit the dogs at The Crooked Tree in the heart of Magaliesburg, where they were presented with the opportunity to meet Tracey, Ashwin, Bella and Sandy – all rescued dogs. They also had the option of walking the excited furry friends and playing with them.
“With so many dogs at our sanctuary, it’s very hard to give each animal some individual attention. I’m so glad they had the opportunity to receive some love and walk on the green grass along the river,” Happy Yappers committee member, Bernadette Begg, said.

As The Crooked Tree supports Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) as well, they would like to host more fundraising events similar to this in future and plan to make their property available to the rescued dogs during the week.
“The dogs enjoyed their day so much, we thought it best to treat the dogs to a run and well-deserved outing on a weekly basis,” Janine added.
“We also managed to raise a total of R1 110 on this day. It is truly heart-warming to see people reach out and support these fur babies.”

Even though these dogs received some love for a day, there are still hundreds more who dream of finding their forever home.
