Museum invites primary school learners for programme

The museum's aim is to aid the learners with all the necessary knowledge to complete their school assignment with ease.

For the past few years, Mogale City Museum’s Heritage, Arts and Culture section has been presenting educational programmes during the months of February and March.

The programme is known as the Museum Orientation Programme and targets mostly local primary schools.

“During the first quarter, most learners from Grade 4 to Grade 7 are presented with an assignment about a museum visit.

Thus we thought it best to develop a museum orientation programme which is aligned with the school curriculum and will also assist learners to understand the museum’s functions,” Bessie Makhuba, the museum curator, said.

The museum’s aim is to aid the learners with all the necessary knowledge to complete their school assignment with ease. Thus they would like to invite all primary schools to participate in the programme which will include guided tours, a quiz based on the tour and indigenous games.

“We would like them to also have a bit of fun through games such as Kgati (skipping rope) and Morabaraba (a traditional strategic board game). Our staff will demonstrate how everything works and the learners will follow,” she said.

Not only do they want the learners to learn, but they want them to have fun while doing so.

This programme will run from 19 February to 27 March.

If schools are interested in the programme, they are encouraged to make a booking in advance by contacting Mogale City Museum. Naledi Sebe can also be contacted on 011 951 2336, as can Laurika Norval on 011 951 2339.
