Warrant Officers Smit and Van der Merwe, who were assigned to the case, said the firearms were found soon after they had gone looking for them.
“Before we even dispatched the K9 Unit, the firearms had been found in the possession of the injured security officers,” said Smit.
“The public has nothing to fear as the firearms are in safe hands.”
The owner of ISS Security, Jan Botha said the allegations of firearms having gone missing were completely false.
“The firearms weren’t missing, we just couldn’t find them at the scene,” said Botha. “Subsequently I went to the hospital where two of my security guards had been admitted and found them at the guards’ sides. I took the firearms to our business and stored them away safely.”
Botha also claimed the vehicle that was carrying the security guards had a canopy and seats installed.
“In fact, 11 people were sitting in the back and two in the cab of the bakkie. The two in the cab and one in the back sustained serious injuries.”
When the News received comment from Botha, all three patients were in a stable condition in hospital. The remaining 10 patients had already been discharged.
