Make the most of sunshine before storms return

Residents are advised to make the most of the sunshine this week before thunderstorms are expected to return next week.

A weather enthusiast known as the Weather Hooligan told the Krugersdorp News that Gauteng residents could experience a welcome spell of more settled weather this week, providing an ideal opportunity to complete outdoor jobs before thunderstorms become a bigger feature again.

“After a period of unsettled conditions across the province, the upcoming stretch of drier and sunnier weather could be particularly useful for residents planning to do the washing, paint, work on construction projects or tackle outdoor maintenance,” he said.

He explained that the fine weather may not last, as weather patterns are already signalling a return to a more unsettled spring setup. Thunderstorms are likely to become increasingly prominent across the province as next week approaches.

“Recent forecasts have shown significant thunderstorm activity over Gauteng and the surrounding Highveld, with the potential for heavy downpours, strong winds and hail in the strongest storms,” he said.

He advised residents to make the most of the sunshine while it lasts, particularly those planning outdoor work. However, they should continue monitoring the forecast as next week approaches, as spring thunderstorms can develop rapidly and the areas most likely to be affected will only become clearer closer to the time.
