Stolen copper and midnight Muldersdrift chase end in 2 arrests
A crowd joined security officers on Beyers Naudé Drive before stolen electrical items were recovered from the suspects' rooms.
Two men carrying stolen copper cable were apprehended after a foot chase in Muldersdrift during the early hours of September 5.
Guardmax Protection Services sales manager Gerrie van Rooyen said their guards noticed two men running across Beyers Naudé Drive towards Drift Boulevard at about 01:15 during a routine patrol.
“The guards decided to give chase as the situation appeared extremely suspicious. A crowd from a nearby informal settlement suddenly appeared and stated that they were chasing the suspects as they noticed the suspects were in possession of stolen electrical cable,” he stated.
The guards gave chase on foot, apprehending both suspects after a few minutes. Van Rooyen explained that the suspects had stolen copper cable and, when questioned, admitted the rest of the stolen items were hidden in their rooms.
“The suspects were taken to the given location and more stolen items were successfully recovered. The suspects and the stolen goods were handed over to Muldersdrift police for further investigations,” he concluded.
