Hear ye! Hear ye! The knights and princesses of fury

"They came out of the mist on an icy wind, and froze the blood of weaker men."

“They came out of the mist on an icy wind, and froze the blood of weaker men.” These are the words of Türkiye Yozgat.

They came from the North and the South, the East and the West to help the Berserkers raid the shores of Europe. They are the South African fighters you saw at Fight-a-Knight – the international Full Contact Medieval Combat stage in 2018.

They travelled far and wide to finish a quest that would help their fellow knights travel to a battle of many men. First came the archers and axe throwers, then the Kubb (viking chess), toga hönk (seated tug-of-war) and tug-of war (standing) and the farmer’s walk.

The event, A Viking Thing, was hosted by the Medieval Fight Club South Africa at La Vue Lodge in Muldersdrift and those who attended showed off their amazing costumes and skills. From traditional Vikings to blade-smiths and beautiful female soldiers – the guests truly made the event worth while.

The name of the event was taken from the term ‘a Viking thing’ which was the governing assembly of a northern Germanic society made up of the free people of the community presided over by law speakers. The word appears in Old Norse, Old English, and modern Icelandic.

All the money raised at this event went towards getting the Vikings who qualified for the International Full Contact Medieval Combat overseas to take on the best medieval fighters the world has to offer.
