Local women awarded for their excellence
These awards are held to recognise the hundreds of inspiring women who form part of Women of Value SA.
The Women’s Living Heritage Monument in Pretoria saw women from all over Gauteng gather in celebration of the annual Gauteng Women’s Excellence Awards.
These awards, which were held on the night of Thursday, 8 March, were intended to recognise hundreds of inspiring women from all over Gauteng. One of the finalists in the category ‘Women in Leadership’ was Krugersdorp’s own Dr Dimakatso Malwela – the CEO of Women of Value SA (Wovsa).

Wovsa is a Krugersdorp-based non-profit organisation that empowers women and youth nationally. It was founded in 2011 by the chairperson of Southern Africa Women in Tourism (Sawit), Dr Dimakatso.
“Our mandate is to play an advocacy role in bridging the gap between the community, government and the private sector on socio-economic issues. We facilitate, co-ordinate, monitor and evaluate all the programmes set to change lives,” Tshepi Motloung from Wovsa said.
“The large gap between knowing what to do and being inspired and empowered is one of the key drivers of this organisation. From women’s brain dominance research to interacting with different communities, Wovsa saw that women and youth, in particular, needed and wanted information to understand their value and know how to live their lives with purpose.”
It was from this awareness that Wovsa came to be and it is their desire, through information and inspiration, to help women and youth fulfill their destiny of greatness.
They have subsequently partnered with the government, communities, ministries and the private sector to ensure that all their programmes are implemented successfully. What makes Wovsa unique is that it cuts across the different pillars of life and impact the lives of people.
On this night, the women were elated when their very own Dr Dimakatso came in second place, and this among hundreds of nominees.
“This means a lot to us as the organisation. She has put in so much hard work over the past nine years, so she deserves it. She even had a Kaya FM interview recently which went extremely well. We are very proud of her, and thankful for her hard work,” Tshepi concluded.
