Clifford Road users demand answers
In the meantime, ward councillor Jacques Hoon confirmed that the right-hand side of the road is safe for all road users.
Residents of Clifford Road in Chancliff have become increasingly worried about large sections of the road surface breaking up and forming sinkholes. The damage appeared two weeks ago due to a burst water pipe.
According to DA ward councillor and Caucus leader, Jacques Hoon, the severe damage can be attributed to the immense water pressure the road surface had to endure because of the burst pipe.
“The pipe was repaired immediately by an infrastructure reparation team. Unfortunately there is no ‘quick fix’ for the damaged road,” he explained.
“The only way to repair the hole is by resurfacing the entire section between Wren Street and Edward Road. This operation alone will cost approximately R500 000. There is no provision in the budget for the repair and the municipality is currently trying to source the funds needed for the work to be done.”

He added that residents can expect repairs to start a minimum of six weeks from now. In the meantime, he confirmed that the right-hand side of the road is safe for all road users.
Jacques also regretted having to inform residents that the same pipe had burst yet again (on Friday, 23 March) and that residents living in Clifford Street were without water for the afternoon.
