[WATCH] Glow-in-the-dark Easter egg hunting – here’s how
Now you can go Easter egg hunting at night!
Easter is a time of pure joy and exciting hunts for children. Some of you may be bored with the normal stripy, pastel-coloured Easter egg decorations, but have you tried glow-in-the-dark Easter eggs yet? These days, you can find plastic eggs that already glow, or clear eggs that can be filled with glowing items. Alternatively, you can decorate plastic or even real hard-boiled eggs with glow or neon paint. The real eggs should not be eaten after being painted, however.
Wikihow also has a number of tips on how to make your Easter eggs glow. Here are some of the ideas:
• Use glowstick liquid:
1. Crack and flex your glowstick bracelets to activate the chemical glow. Tie each glowstick into a knot or pretzel shape so it will fit easily into the plastic egg. Glowsticks can be obtained – very cost effectively – at art, party, and some grocery/ one-stop-shopping stores. The average glowstick lasts six to eight hours, so don’t activate them too long before your intended egg hunt.
2. Open the plastic eggs, add a glowstick and some candy to each, and close them up again.
3. Hide your eggs outside, or turn off the lights and hide them indoors. Let the glow-in-the-dark Easter egg hunt begin!
• Use glow-in-the-dark spray paint:
1. Lay out the desired number of plastic eggs on sheets of newspaper or another material you don’t mind getting paint on.
2. Evenly spray the closed plastic eggs with glow-in-the-dark spray paint.
3. Let them dry completely. If you are worried about paint sealing the eggs closed, open the eggs before laying them on the newspaper, open side down.
4. Open up the eggs and add any candy or prize you like. If you are worried about paint or paint flakes getting on the treats, wrapped candy is always a safe choice.
5. Let the painted eggs soak up plenty of light. Let them sit under a light bulb or in the sun for at least ten minutes.
• Buy glow-in-the-dark Easter eggs and black lights:
There are many stores that sell packaged glow-in-the-dark Easter eggs and little black light flash lights. Woolworths, Glowparty.co.za, and many other stores sell glow-in-the-dark Easter egg kits. Have a look online to locate stores that sell them.
