Glitz and glamour make Mogale glorious
The main objective of this prestigious event is to create exposure for local designers and models.
Mogale City Local Municipality recently hosted the first ever West Rand Fashion Festival at Key West Shopping Centre.
This festival targeted designers, models, make-up artists and local cultural groups.

The main objective of this prestigious event was to create exposure for local designers and models, to promote tourism and to increase the number of fashion consumers supporting locally manufactured clothing and the textile industry.
On Friday, 23 and Saturday, 24 March, hundreds of onlookers saw a total of 12 designers showcase their glamorous garments on the amphitheatre stage.

Onlookers were pleasantly surprised when they saw what designer Isaac Tiller Lekwane – a Kagiso-born fashion designer for the upcoming SA Fashion Week, scheduled to take place in April – had up his sleeve.
“More importantly, the crowd was properly entertained by local groups. The event was put together entirely at the cost of Standard Bank, Key West Shopping Centre and The Innovation Hub,” organiser Sabelo Ngwane said.

“The project will continue to be held annually and preparations for 2019 have already started, with mini activations of fashion shows expected to start criss-crossing the entire West Rand region, from Mogale to Merafong.”
In his welcoming address, the Executive Mayor of Mogale City, Councillor Naga Patrick Lipudi indicated that an enterprise development programme will soon be structured by Mogale City. This will ultimately ensure that all local designers included in this project have registered and formalised business entities.

He added that the municipality will thereafter facilitate access to funding and markets from government agencies as well as various platforms for Small, Medium, and Micro-sized Enterprise empowerment.
“Mogale City thanks Key West Shopping Centre Management, Standard Bank, The Innovation Hub and the entire population of Mogale City for making this historic event a great success. This project is an ideal way to create decent and sustainable jobs,” Sabelo concluded.
