Retail store gives customers a run for their money

Dashing through the aisles, with a red four-wheeled trolley, over the tiles they ran – through a plastic heaven.
It was almost like Christmas when West Rand Pack in Krugersdorp West celebrated its store relaunch with its well-known, wondrous Trolley Dash.

On Thursday, 29 March, this lifestyle retail store hosted a great many community members and customers after first opening its doors some 22 years ago. The day’s proceedings started off with a lucky draw when customers who arrived early to celebrate the relaunch each picked a coloured ball out of a bucket.
Each colour represented a mystery discount to spend in store, as well as the chance to be chosen as one of the three lucky customers for their Trolley Dash – a store-opening tradition for the West Pack Lifestyle retail group.

After owner Chris Da Silva Snr cut the ribbon, the three lucky Trolley Dashers were revealed.
“What made this Trolley Dash completely unique is the fact that the contestants were all men,” said spokesperson Roxy van Eyk.
Johan Milan, Johannes Brits and Chris du Plooy were each given the opportunity to dash around the store and fill their trolleys with as much valuable merchandise as possible in only 60 seconds.

Customers soon saw them racing up and down the store’s aisles, grabbing practical items such as storage boxes, folding tables and plastic containers.
“West Rand Pack, which has been expanded and revamped over the last two decades, was officially opened to the public again, and we would like to thank all our customers for their loyal support,” Chris said.
“We started with a small retail store, and with the help of the community we have grown tremendously over the years. We are honoured to walk and grow with them.”
In addition to the Trolley Dash, each of the first 30 children to enter the store on the day was presented with a scrumptious Easter hamper.
