Muldersdrift CPF’s committee bids farewell

The committee of the Sector 3 Muldersdrift Community Policing Forum (CPF) met for a farewell luncheon courtesy of Adele Forsyth, owner of the Misty Hills Hotel in Muldersdrift on Tuesday, 27 March.
The committee, together with Warrant Officer van Zyl, who served as the sector’s Police Manager for nine years, got together to acknowledge all the team has done for the community over the past few years.
The committee is made up of representatives from the policing area, which covers Driefontein, Steynsvlei/ Northvale, Diswilmar, Ruimsig, Featherbrooke, Pinehaven, Van Wyks Restant and Rietvlei.
The committee founded an N14 Group to address high-level public security, which then grew from strength to strength under the leadership of Peter Raschel. The group initiated many local community projects such as Blow the Whistle in the informal settlements, the SOS Roof Flash Light, Know your Neighbour, Namola and Know Your Area Maps. They assisted the community during the tornado in 2017 and have a well-organised emergency WhatsApp group that enables many in the community to participate in security initiatives and call for help when needed as part of Public Safety.
Each member has assisted his or her immediate area community in times of need, dealing with armed robberies, farm attacks, land invasions, car accidents and delivering babies on the side of the road, and handled many queries and calls for assistance.
The committee was disbanded by the current CPF Chairperson, Johan Nel, and a new committee will be constituted with his assistance in the next few days.
Shenan Cochrane thanked each member of the team, and acknowledged the great work and effort that everyone had put in over the years for their community. Much of the work is not known to the public, as the committee has to exercise high levels of confidentiality at all times.
“I want to personally thank each member of my committee for the hours of work and effort they have volunteered to the sector over the years.

Our thanks also to Adele and her team at Misty Hills for hosting our farewell event and my personal thanks to Johan Wasserman of Ruimsig and Herman Victor of Steynsvlei/ Northvale who unfortunately could not be with us today,” Shenan said.
While the committee members will no longer be serving on the Sector 3 committee, they remain part of the local Disaster Management group and will still be performing many of the roles they currently fulfill, most importantly working on the safety and security of their communities.
