Pooches participate in another ‘woof-ly’ Muddy Puppy Race

The Muddy Puppy returned by popular demand, and it was nothing short of spectacular.

If there’s one thing dogs love more than biscuits, it would most probably be rolling around in mud.

And even though they may have whimpered later on at the sight of the doggy shampoo, they still knew in their fluffy canine hearts that the rise was worth the fall.

Yes – the Muddy Puppy event returned by popular demand, and it was nothing short of spectacular. On Sunday, 8 April, dogs and their owners were presented with the opportunity to strengthen their bond by getting muddy together in a fabulously filthy obstacle course.

It was indeed a momentous occasion for all animal lovers and their furry friends when they took on Walkhaven Dog Park’s 2,1km obstacle course which is filled with crawling, climbing, jumping, slipping, sliding, wagging, barking and lots and lots of mud.

The event, which was sponsored by Oneplan Pet Insurance, saw approximately 450 participants and their pets walk the walk for a good cause. While some of these duo’s completed one lap, others completed two, three and some even four laps.

“All our events are in aid of rescues, and that’s why we encourage everyone to participate with their fur babies for this cause.

This is why it’s called the Muddy Puppy Race. Photo: Alanicka Lotriet.

This time around we thought it best to contribute a portion of the the proceeds towards Yorkie Rescue,” Rudi Delport, one of the organisers said.

After finishing the obstacle course, all dogs were awarded a Muddy Puppy medal, a warm vest for the upcoming colder season, a well-deserved biscuit and a tennis ball.

Rudi added that this is a fun family event with activities for the entire family, and invited all interested parties to like the Muddy Puppy Facebook page to find out more about upcoming events.
