Facts about the struggles of the SPCA
Some shocking facts about the SPCA.
The Roodepoort SPCA, which also services the Krugersdorp area, ran at a loss of over R800 000 in the last financial year.
This was before they took over the Krugersdorp area which has added immensely to their workload and costs.
To top this off, they have never received any government funding. Potential adopters are asked if they can afford private veterinary fees. The majority say they cannot, but the SPCA cannot afford to treat adopted animals for life either.

In the 1980s, there were over 120 SPCAs in the country. The number of operational SPCAs in South Africa is now about 80 and many are battling to survive. Finance is an important factor but so is community support – morally and financially.
The staff of the SPCA Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp extend their sincere thanks to the supportive community who are the organisation’s lifeblood. They are grateful for the community’s understanding of the plight of animals in the area, and that’s why they continue to serve.
It is because of your help that they do as much as they already do. Of course they could do more, but they need the community to come on board – every contribution helps.
