Rotarian receives highest international award
This function was attended by the Krugersdorp, Monument and Roodepoort Rotary Clubs and saw most Rotarians bring along some of their friends and family members.
On Tuesday, 10 April, it was time for another prestigious Rotary Club function that had many Rotarians gathering at the Golden Age Retirement Village.
This function was attended by the Krugersdorp, Monument and Roodepoort Rotary Clubs, most of whose members brought some of their friends and family members along to join in the night’s most honourable proceedings.
The first order of the night was to award Rotarian Elsabé de Vos with one of the highest and most sought-after Rotarian awards. Elsabé, who was also the first-ever female president of the Krugersdorp Rotary Club in 1998, received the Paul Harris Award.

This award acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name to the tune of US$1 000 to the international Rotary Foundation.
After Elsabé was commended for her achievement, guest speaker, Brian Sneag – chairperson of the International Paraplegic Games – was welcomed onto the stage.
During his talk he spoke about various life lessons that can be learned from determined paraplegic athletes. With this he also voiced the need for wheelchair-friendly hotels in order to promote the growth of South Africa as a potential host country.

To end off the evening, the new acting president, Colin Steyn, was inducted. According to Rotarian Dehlia van Staden, he will be the last acting president for the fourth and final term before the appointment of the next president for a full year.
