Dog Lookalike Competition:

28 APRIL — The Crooked Tree, a dog park and campsite in Magaliesburg, is hosting a Dog Lookalike Competition in aid of Friends of Rescued Animals. Come join in the fun. Have your photo taken with your dog and you could win a waterproof bed for your pretty pooch. There will be a beer tent and food stalls, and kicks off at 9am. The day promises to be great fun with. 36 Crazyfists returns:

28 APRIL — 36 Crazyfists returns to South Africa for a night of metal music, with supporting acts such as Only Forever, Newtown Knife Gang and Riddlebreak. Since its forming in 1994, the band has released four records through three different labels, lost members to everything from the usual band in-fighting to fatal car crashes, and they’ve shared the road with the likes of Alice in Chains, Atreyu, Killswitch Engage, Chimaira, Diecast, God Forbid, Walls of Jericho and Poison the Well. Show starts at 8pm at Rumours Rock City, corner Weltevreden Road and Valley Lane, Cresta. Tickets cost R380 and are available from Computicket.
Youth performing arts workshop:

1 MAY — The PerformingHEARTS Theatre Workshops at the Roodepoort Theater are aimed at young people in the West Rand area aged six to 18. There are three artistic disciplines – acting, physical theatre (movement and contemporary dance), and creative writing. The workshops are conducted by head facilitator Francesca Matthys, a versatile performing artist, theatre-maker and writer. PerformingHEARTS provides a platform where children are allowed to engage in play while gaining quality arts training.
