These are the events you need to take note of happening around town:
Hike the Koppies:
13 MAY — Join in on a three-koppie group hike of up to 10km through the Melville Koppies. The group sets off at 8.30am sharp. Park, meet and pay in the upper car park at Marks Park on Judith Road, Emmarentia. Costs are R60 for adults and R40 for children – all donations are used to maintain the Koppies. Hikers must be fit with good balance as paths are rocky and steep. Children must be over six years old. Sorry, no dogs allowed. Mystery Ghost Bus Tour:
11 MAY — The Mystery Ghost Bus will offer ‘Pub & Grub’ stops, poltergeists, electronic voice phenomenon recordings, dowsing rods, castles, a dark haunted room, graveyards and much more. Bubbly Festival:

18-20 MAY — Bubbly aficionados, epicureans and those who love the good things in life can spend the weekend popping corks, filling flutes and sipping some of the best sparkles around while snacking on fine foods and listening to live music. The Bubbly Festival will be held at The Park House of Events on 7, which is located in the Hyde Park Shopping Centre. Tickets cost R380 per person and include a glass and 10 tasting tickets. Bookings can be made via www.webtickets.co.za or at the door on the day. Bubbly by the glass and bottle as well as food will be for sale.
UB40’s 25th Anniversary Tour:

19 MAY — Big Concerts has confirmed that UB40 will be returning in support of their 25th SA anniversary tour. They will be performing at the Sun Arena, Time Square in Pretoria. Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue have up held the status as Britain’s most successful Reggae band of all time, true music pioneers since 1979. They have been at the top of their game since reforming in 2013 and developing into a formidable touring outfit. They wi perform their all-time classic hits Red Red Wine, Kingston and Can’t help falling in Love. Ticket prices range from R460 to R915 and are available from www.bigconcerts.co.za. Ali, Astro and Mickey will be performing as part of an 11-piece band. Don’t miss them live in South Africa.
Kerkbasaar:
25 MEI — Die NG Gemeente Krugersdorp-Noord, op die hoek van Viljoen- en Derdestraat hou weer basaar van 4nm tot laat! Kom kry jou aandete hier of sit aan, eet ‘n ietsie, ontspan en geniet die musiek. Verskeie tradisionele basaarkosse soos boereworsrolle, hamburgers, pap en sous, jaffels en chip-n-dip gaan beskikbaar wees, en o ja …. wat is ‘n basaar nou sonder pannekoek of poeding? Boeremusiek word gemaak en dit skep ‘n heerlike en feestelike atmosfeer. Hier is vermaak vir ‘n ieder en ‘n elk! Bring jou gesin en kom geniet ‘n heerlike saamkuier.
Clean house sale:
26 MAY — The Holy Rosary Catholic Church is having their clean house sale again. This sale is in aid of the church and will take place at 064 Luipaard Street from 8am. The saying of “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure” rings true at this sale. There will be loads of goods to purchase at great prices. Everything must go! There will also be food and drink stalls to sustain your shopping marathon. For more information, contact 011 953 1788.
GINU Workshop:
26 MAY — Girl I Need You (GINU), is a non-profit organisation which concentrates on women of different ages, races and backgrounds from all corners of the world. The organisation has arranged the Realising your Purpose workshop, taking place in the Kagiso Extention 12 Hall from noon, where women will be empowering each other on issues of purpose. The event is free of charge and those interested are encouraged to register beforehand. To register contact 084 230 7528.
