Yet another 13-year-old girl raped

Her mother scolded her daughter for coming home late, but after questioning, she opened up and told them everything.

The Kagiso Police arrested a 19-year-old suspect yesterday, 7 June, after he allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl.

The mother of the minor said she was at home and wondering why her daughter wasn’t back yet. The daughter eventually arrived at 7pm – much later than usual. She began questioning and scolding her daughter for coming home that late. A few minutes later, an aunt arrived and also posed some questions.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police said the girl eventually opened up and told her mother and aunt she had been raped by the suspect and his accomplice in the suspect’s shack.

“The girl explained that she was at the spaza shop when the suspects, well-known to the family, approached her,” Sibiya said.

“They asked her to accompany them to one suspect’s residence. She agreed to join them, but when they got to the shack, they started smoking dagga, and forced her to smoke it too. The two suspects later raped her.”

The mother of the victim reported the matter to the Kagiso Police Station and the suspect was arrested. His accomplice is still at large.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
