Angry police’s stern warning: “Stop wasting our resources!”
"There are people who want to make fun of police, providing false or misleading information."
Local police have expressed their annoyance and anger towards those who open false cases at police stations, calling it a “waste of human resources which limits their physical ability to fight crime”.
This follows after a woman reported to the police that her husband had been kidnapped on Saturday, 9 June and that the kidnappers demanded that she pay R3 000 before releasing him.
Police launched an investigation and later found the man, who confessed that he hadn’t been kidnapped, but just wanted the money from his wife.
He was arrested on charges of perjury and defeating the ends of justice.
Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police Station, said that police are working tirelessly around the clock to fight crime and save lives and those who report false cases hinder their ability to do so.
“There are people who want to make fun of the police, providing false or misleading information which unnecessarily costs the State and the public,” said Sibiya.
The ‘kidnapped’ man has already appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court and has been remanded in custody.
