Where art and paws meet

"We have a humanity that has forgotten its role as guardians of the planet and its animals. "

On Saturday, 2 June, animal lovers met art lovers at the Nirox Sculpture Park in Kromdraai, to not only celebrate animal lives, but also to contribute to the quality thereof. After the success of the first Love Paws concert held in 2017, the organisers of this great initiative thought it good to host another.

Love Paws 2 featured a fantastic line-up of SA’s top musicians – including Arno Carstens, Jesse Clegg, Ard Mathews from Just Jinjer fame, Prime Circle and the winner of the Voice 2017 SA, Craig Lucas.

The event raised money for two charities who work in the companion animal welfare sector – PawsRUs (SA) and 4Paws. Both organisations rescue and rehabilitate/ re-home abandoned and unwanted animals.

PawsRUs is a Midrand-based animal shelter that believes there is no doubt that all rescue organisations and shelters in SA can rescue companion animals until we are blue in the face – however, this will not address the underlying causes of the animal welfare problems in our country.

4Paws, by contrast, is a Diepsloot-based animal shelter whose mission is to improve the quality of life of underprivileged animals in urban surroundings, such as those in informal settlements, and feral cats.
