Kenmare Grade 1 learner dies in family crash

They were going on holiday, but sadly never reached their destination.

Adam Clayton, a seven-year-old Laerskool Kenmare learner died in a car accident in Bloemfontein yesterday, 26 June.

The rest of his family, who were in the car with him, are still in hospital and in a critical condition at the time this article was published.

This included his mother, grandmother and his sisters who are all in Life Rosepark Hospital.

The school posted a heartfelt message on their Facebook page expressing their sadness about the loss of the cheerful Grade 1 learner. “It’s with great sadness that we confirm that one of our tiny learners, Adam Clayton who was in Grade 1, has died. May God hold your family tightly in this sad time.

We as a school will pray for strength and comfort during this time. Rest in peace, Adam.”

Spokesperson for Kennies, Kevin Kinghorn said the school will hold a memorial service once the new term starts.

“We hope to give the learners who were in class with him the chance to grieve and receive counselling,” Kevin said. “But for now we wish all the best to the family and will support them in any way possible.”

Iza Hanekom, who is also a spokesperson for the school, said that everyone spoke so highly of Adam.

“He was an angel-child. He had the best manners and he was an exceptional student. Everyone will miss him dearly and we hope to be there for his family through this difficult time. His friends in class will also miss him very much,” Iza said.

Adam is not the only Kennies ‘family member’ who passed away this week – Gibbon Graaff, the father of two Kennies learners, also died yesterday.

It is believed he died of complications due to pneumonia, but this has yet to be confirmed.
