Local choir to compete in international competition
“The choristers worked extremely hard and they are super-excited about the event."
Monument Primary will be taking part in the World Choir Games between 4 and 14 July. This exciting and historic event is the first of its kind in South Africa and on the African continent, and will boast over 300 choirs with 16 000 participants from 60 countries.
One of the choirs is the Cantare Children’s Choir, also known as the South Gauteng Regional Choir. With about 66 talented voices from all over Gauteng, this choir has won many international awards and accolades. In 2016, the choir returned from Spain where they participated in the Fiestalonia International competition of Montserrat, with a Grand Prix prize in the Folklore section and a first prize in the children’s choir competition.

The choristers come from schools across Gauteng. With more than 50 of the youngsters coming from disadvantaged homes and schools, it is a really big deal for the choir to be in the World Choir Games.
