Bored on Mandela Day? Go pet a husky
People are not too keen to visit animal shelters because they're afraid of seeing the sad faces of animals.
Not everyone is able to own a husky, but not everyone has to.
For Mandela Day, anyone is welcome to visit Husky Heaven in Krugersdorp and treat themselves to a little puppy love. Visitors can come to the site on 18 July and enjoy the love of these selfless beings.
Gates open at 9am and close at 4pm.

Husky Heaven is home to more than 50 huskies. They have 16 enclosures which are 10 x 10 metres in size, each with its own log cabin for the huskies, and three huge running areas with pools for them to cool off.
What makes Husky Heaven so unique is that the huskies are healthy, there are only two huskies in each pen and there’s lots of space for you to interact with them.
People are not too keen to visit animal shelters because they’re afraid of seeing the sad faces of animals, but at this Heaven the huskies are healthy and happy – they just need some extra love, treats and attention.

Visitors can take dog biscuits to the shelter and feed them to the wolf-like dogs. They can also bath the dogs, play with them or just cuddle up. The dogs aren’t aggressive at all and they’re child-friendly. Small kids are welcome to attend.
If you’re stuck at work and not able to visit, but still feel like you want to help the fur-kids, why not sponsor a husky? You can donate R67 which buys them treats and toys or sponsor R670 which feeds the husky for an entire month.
