Seven years for young rapist

"Any sentence where a rapist is removed from the community is always welcomed."

Twenty-one-year-old Fanie Ngalo has been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm after he was found guilty of raping a 20-year-old woman in September 2017.

The rape case was finalised on 12 July.

Ngalo raped the woman in an open field in Kagiso. The victim reported the matter to the police and Ngalo was arrested shortly afterwards.

Lieutenant Colonel Kathy Segotta, commander of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, congratulated the investigating officer, Sergeant Thobeka Buthelezi, on this sentence.

She also commended the stance the National Prosecuting Authority took in this matter.

“The efforts made by the investigating officer and the prosecutor secured this sentence. Any sentence where a rapist is removed from the community is always welcomed,” Segotta said.
