Even though the country is celebrating Women’s Month, abusers don’t rest.
On Sunday, 5 August, police arrested a 27-year-old man after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend in Hekpoort earlier that morning.
At about 6.30am, the woman was walking along a road in Blockdyk in Hekpoort when she was confronted by her boyfriend who started arguing with her. He assaulted her with his fists and she sustained injuries to her face.
The woman reported the matter to the police, who arrested the man on charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and domestic violence.
The suspect is set to appear in court soon.
