Police arrest suspected mob-justice murderers

It's believed they had chased the victim and attacked him with sticks and stones.

Kagiso Police arrested six men accused of murder.

Police were on patrol in Kagiso when they received a complaint of an assault in the area. The concerned residents told the members they had witnessed a group of young men attacking and assaulting a person with fists, sticks and stones after they were seen chasing and accusing him of theft.

Police rushed to the scene and found the man lying on the ground and bleeding. He sustained serious injuries and open wounds to his face, head and upper body. He was rushed to the local hospital in a serious condition but died a few minutes after his arrival.

The motive for the attack was not known and a case docket of murder was opened.

Police launched a manhunt for a group of young men believed to have been responsible for the man’s death.

Working closely with the community, police arrested the suspects. They appeared briefly in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court and were remanded in custody for further investigation.
