Tenant shot in the back while trying to save couple from robbers

Five robbers entered the flat in Mindalore while the couple was inside, ransacked it for valuables and tied them up before the tenant returned.

A resident of Mindalore got the fright of his life on Friday, 10 August after he was shot at by suspects while his landlords, a married couple, were being assaulted and robbed in a flat in the area.

Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the West Rand Cluster Police, reported that the residents of the flat, aged 57 and 64, were inside their residence when an armed man confronted them. Four more suspects entered and one proceeded to tie the woman’s hands.

“The other suspects escorted the man through the rooms in the flat and took whatever they deemed valuable. After this they also tied him up and left him close to the woman.”

The couple’s tenant then entered the flat and saw the suspects and the scene. A struggle ensued between the tenant and the suspects, during which he was shot in the back. The suspects then proceeded to hit the woman on her back with a pick-axe. At about 10pm, Netcare 911 paramedics were called to the flat. They found the man with two gunshot wounds.

He was treated on the scene by an advanced life support paramedic and transported by ambulance in a serious condition to hospital for further treatment.

All necessary authorities were on scene to investigate.
