Armed rape suspect caught the same day

The man accused of raping her was her boyfriend's neighbour. She screamed while he raped her, but no one heard her.

A 35-year-old Tshepisong man who allegedly raped a woman was arrested the same day by local police.

The woman said she was walking with friends to her boyfriend’s home, where she lives, early on the morning of Sunday, 12 August. Her friends left her as she entered the yard. But, as she tried to open the door, a neighbour allegedly touched her from behind and ordered her to open up and get inside.

He suddenly grabbed her hand and forced her into the house. She tried to scream but could not be heard. The suspect ended up raping her and left. The woman lodged a complaint of rape at the Kagiso Police Station.

At about 8pm that same day, sector police members, accompanied by the woman, set out on a search for the suspect. He was spotted at a spaza shop in Kagiso. When the members conducted a body search of the suspect, they found a loaded firearm with a magazine containing eight rounds.

The suspect was placed under arrest and later detained at the Kagiso Police Station where a case docket of rape and possession of an unlicensed firearm was opened. He will appear briefly in court soon.
